Thiago Magalhães Pires (LL.B., M.S.L, S.J.D., University of the State of Rio de Janeiro) is a legal practitioner since 2009, and a member of the Special Commission of Studies on Constitutional Procedure of the Brazilian Bar Association – Rio de Janeiro Chapter (Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil – Seccional do Rio de Janeiro). He is a Professor of Constitutional Law both at graduate and undergraduate courses, and has served as clerk at the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court.
Thiago’s main areas of practice are Constitutional, Administrative, Banking, and Digital Law, in which he works both as a consultant and conducting litigation. He is part of our Digital Law and our Administrative Law teams, with an emphasis on issues involving federalism, including local and state law restrictions on businesses and activities.
Thiago has been consistently recognized as a leading lawyer in the field of Administrative Law by The Latin American Corporate Council Association (LACCA Approved 2017 – 2021).
Thiago is the author of three books, “As Competências Legislativas na Constituição de 1988”, “Entre a Cruz e a Espada: Liberdade Religiosa e Laicidade do Estado no Brasil”, and “Curso de Direito Constitucional Estadual e Distrital”, as well as several chapters and articles in specialized periodicals, in Brazil and abroad.
In 2008, he received the Aguiar Dias Award (1st Prize) of the Brazilian Bar Association – Rio de Janeiro Chapter, for achieving the highest score in the Bar Examination.
Thiago speaks Portuguese (native) and English (fluent), and has good communication skills in Spanish.
